Naval Vessels

Gloucester The destroyer HMS Gloucester is currently the guardship in the Falkland Islands.. Argentine Navy This Argentine navy vessel called us up in the Chilean Channels. Fortuna There are three Fortunas in Puerto Madero, all owned by the Argentine Navy. This one was my favourite.
Esmeralda This model of the Esmeralda is exhibited in the Naval Museum, Valparaiso. This was the vessel commanded by one of Chile's naval heroes, Arturo Pratt, shortly before his death during the early days of the Battle of the Pacific in 1879. Esmeralda This Esmeralda is the training vessel of the Chilean Armada. She is at anchor in this picture in Cooks Bay, Moorea. All new officer recruits spend part of their induction course on board as she travels around the world.

Sailboats

Carpe Diem and Sapphire Sapphire saying goodbye to the Oyster 62 Carpe Diem  in Wreck Bay, Galapagos Archipelago. This yacht is a real beauty. We enjoyed a lovely dinner with the owners Keith and Rosemary, along with the Paul and Christina, the skipper and mate who keep this yacht in immaculate condition. Lady in White Lady in White  is a steel Laurent Giles design 55 ft ketch. She shadowed and supported us for days across the Pacific. Swan Yes please! This beautiful Swan was moored at Algarrobo
Magic Dragon and Sapphire in Stanley Sapphire moored close to the Oyster 66 Magic Dragon in Stanley Harbour. When we arrived, Magic Dragon and her sistership Miss Molly were in Stanley, having returned from Antarctica. Sunstone Sunstone was built in Scotland and recently celebrated her 40th birthday. Sunstone and Sapphire rounded Cape Horn in company. Boats in Olla From left, Pelagic, T Tauri Wind and Sapphire anchored in Caleta Olla, Beagle Channel.
Captains Lady Brian's lovely Rustler 42 - Captain's Lady The Griffin The Griffin at St Kaths Pelagic Australis Skip Novak's 74' Pelagic Australis. (The boat to her right is an Oyster 406, similar to our previous boat, Cooktown Orchid.)

Rataplan We were invited for a day sail on the Dutch Catamaran   Rataplan. Rataplan was built in Alwoplast, Chile. Her owners Carla and Raymond have lived in Chile on board with their son for eight years. UBS The long arm of UBS' marketing department at work Adele The superyacht Adele off the Marquesas Islands Carebli Carebli is an Oyster 53 anchored here in Cooks Bay, Moorea
Ironbark Ironbark was built by her owner Trevor, and wintered in Antarctica. She is a 35 ft Wylo design. Magic Carpet We sailed with Magic Carpet  in Fiji. Chris and Karyn are shortly due to finish a long circumnavigation.

Wrecks

Jhelum The Falklands are littered with wrecks. Because there are very few trees on the islands there are no insects etc to destroy the wood so many of the wrecks are in good condition. The Jhelum was condemned after rounding Cape Horn. She is an East Indiaman lying in Stanley Harbour. Capitan Leonidas2 The Capitan Leonidas, wrecked in Canal Messier Hazel Branch The wreck of the steamer Hazel Branch on Paso Shoal, Canal Smyth. She was wrecked in 1904.
Puerto Montt wrecks There are several wrecks like this at the entrance to Puerto Montt. Moorea Wreck A good reason to give the reef at Moorea a wide berth. Bora Bora Wreck This large yacht sank at anchor in Bora Bora.

Miscellaneous

Cabo Fishing Cabo Frio fishermen, Brazil Paraguacu canoe Boys in a dugout canoe in the Rio Paraguacu, Bahia Todos os Santos, Brazil - I think the lad lying down saw the camera. Uros Boat The Uros people on Lake Titicaca make these boats out of reeds. It takes about one month to construct a boat like this.
Sinking boat This fisherman in Iquique did manage to save his boat though the sealions were watching him from the shore. I think they thought they had a new member joining their colony.
